A Brief History about Carl Jung's Psychological types

What is little know about the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is that it is based in noted psychologist Carl Jungs life work. In a fascinating autobiography/biography Memories, Dreams and Reflections, Dr. Jung tells stories of his adventures and eventually misadventures with Freud, who was his contemporary. As collegues and travelling buddies the two psychologists would attend speaking engagements together. But what puzzled Jung was how different their perspectives were about life. Carl Jung is noted in some places as an INFJ and in others as an INTJ; but, in reading this book with his stories in his own words it is easy to see that Jung has characteristics of both a MindCentred Intuitive™️ and a HeartCentred Intuitive™️. This is actually quite common in men.

Jung's Psychological typology evolved from his interactions with Freud so that there are three axis:

  1. Introverted (I) and Extraverted (E),

  2. Thinking (T) and Feeling (F), and

  3. Sensing (S) and iNtuitive (N).

J for Judging and P for Perceiving

The J for Judging and P for Perceiving were added by Myers and Briggs. As a result of a contract with the military, this mother and daughter team created the MBTI®️. That is why and how the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®️ became associated with career development, and why it is an instrument that is commonly used by Human Resource offices and officials.

But, the origin of typology started with observations of a prominent psychologist and his friend. (Eventually, the two parted ways when Jung discovered the answer to the question about Freud that had been dogging him. You will have to read his biography to learn more about that.)

-T for Turbulent and -A for Assertive

The identity index (-T for Turbulent and -A for Assertive) was added during the reworking of the MBTI®️, by NERIS Analytics Limited, founders of www.16Personalities.com. (This type explorer is available in 37 languages!) The theory of their framework can be found here.

Bringing it all together

It is because of this extra index, where NERIS "chose to rework and rebalance the dimensionality called the Big Fiver personality traits" that the philosophy of MindCentred Intuitive™️, BodyCentred Intuitive™️ and HeartCentred Intuitive™️ exists. At the core of this philosophy is the shame resilience experienced by individuals with -Assertive identities and the potentiality of individuals with -Turbulent identities to Transmute their insecurities by understanding what it means to be a minority:

  • Only 25% of the world's population are iNtuitive.

  • Only 10% of the world's population are MindCentred Intuitives™️.

  • Only 15% of the world's population are HeartCentred Intuitive™️.

  • An overwhelming 75% of the world's population are BodyCentred Intuitive™️, and as such have a great deal of influence when it comes to culture, norms, values and expectations many of which contradict and contrast drastically with the norms and values and perspectives of iNutitive beings.

That is why Kimber KivaGarden's philosophy is foundational to the transformation of our collective understanding of what it means to be iNtutive sensitive beings in an insensitive world. She knows/Knows that individuals with -Turbulent identities are both vulnerable and susceptible to predatory type people. In contrast, individuals with -Assertive identities are repellant in nature to those who would prey upon the good nature of HeartCentred Intuitives™️. And HeartCentred Intuitive™️ beings are here on earth with a Purpose to perform. Having a -Turbulent identity is what is slowing many down, standing in their way, and stopping them from Doing what they were Created to Do. This is the very nature of the conceptual framework undergirding The Journey to Caelum series.

Identity (-T, -A)

The creators of www.16 personalities.com determined that an additional index was required when they reworked the theories of Jung, Myers-Briggs, Keirsey, and the Big Five Personality traits.

The following descriptors come from philosopher Kimber KivaGarden.

-A (Assertive)

  • INFJ-A, INFP-A, ENFJ-A, ENFP-A

  • An -A denotes a more assertive expression of self.

  • As a result people who have a more -Assertive identity are filled with Confidence, Courage and Grace.

  • HeartCentred Intuitives™️ with -Assertive identities live what Brene Brown, in Gifts of Imperfection, calls Wholehearted lives.

  • HeartCentred Intuitives™️ with -Assertive identities experience shame-resilience.

-T (-Turbulent)

  • A -T denotes a more turbulent expression of self.

  • A person who has a more -Turbulent identity experiences a greater degree of self-consciousness, insecurity and self-doubt.

  • Individuals with -Turbulent identities are more likely to experience shame: like something is wrong with them.

  • HeartCentred Intuitives™️ with -Turbulent identities who have been minimized, negated or ostracized for being a feeling-based iNtuitive and may engage in self-harm: addiction, eating disorders and suicidality.

  • It is possible to develop life skills and emotional intelligence to transition from a more -Turbulent identity to a more -Assertive one. To this end was Kimber KivaGarden born.

What is an INFJ-A?

What is an INFJ-T?

What is the difference between an INFJ-T and an INFJ-A?

INFJ's are:

  • HeartCentred Intuitives™️

  • Introverted by nature (I) so overstimulating environments can be draining

  • Planners (J)

  • and Feeling (F) based iNtuitives (N)

There are two varieties:

  1. Those that have -Assertive identities (-A).

  2. Those that have -Turbulent identities (-T).

  3. See above, "Remind me, what is the -T/-A at the end of my 16Personalities.com score?"

INFJ-A

An INFJ-A is an -Assertive HeartCentred Intuitives™️ who experiences a great deal of self-confidence when it comes to being a feeling-based iNtuitive. Many INFJ-As find fulfilling work as counselors or other similar professions where they can work one-on-one with people. With a propensity for planning, an INFJ-A can tap into their especially iNtuitive and sensitive natures to create individualized plans that honour and respect where an individual is at.

INFJ-T

An INFJ-T is a HeartCentred Intuitives™️ who experiences a great deal of -Turbulence and self-consciousness when it comes to being a feeling-based iNtuitive. Many INFJ-Ts are unaware of their iNtuitive natures and are often overwhelmed by their empathic natures. Without the life skills and emotional intelligence that their more -Assertive counterparts experience, as a result of being negated or marginalized many INFJ-Ts experience shame when it comes to being iNtuitive and sensitive beings. Some INFJ-Ts cloak themselves in professions that allow them to hide away from overstimulating human interaction and micro-politics. Escaping into fantasy (other dimensions and realms) is quite common for INFJ-Ts that cope with being sensitive beings in an insensitive world.

Why is it important to transform from a -T identity to a -A?

It is important to Grow and Develop life skills and emotional intelligence as an INFJ-T to a INFJ-A because people who experience inner -Turbulence as a lack of self-confidence become targets to predatory type people. Gary and his wife Ruth, Namie, have done a remarkable job bringing this dynamic into the light with their book The Bully at Work. Their description of targets of bullies clearly describes individuals with -Turbulent identified: in particular dedicated and devoted, compassionate and kind, HeartCentred Intuitives™️.

APPLICATION

There are two characters in Kimber KivaGarden's Journey to Caelum series that are INFJs.

  • Malakai claims to be an INFJ-A, but in all reality, as the story progresses we see that his human self has more of a -Turbulent identity and that in crisis that -Turbulence triggers a shift into being an INTJ. It is on his Journey to Caelum that Kai learns the life skills required to have more Confidence, Courage and Grace as an iNtuitive being. It is when he has Connected to his Divine Self that Kai manifests a more -Assertive identity.

  • Michaela's exceptional skills and abilities when it comes to emotional intelligence fosters a highly -Assertive identity. Michaela is a self-proclaimed INFJ.

What is an INFP-A?

What is an INFP-T?

What is the difference between an INFP and an INFJ?

INFP's are very similar to their INFJ counterparts. They are:

  • HeartCentred Intuitives™️

  • Introverted by nature (I) so overstimulating environments can be draining

  • Spontaneous in nature (P)

  • and Feeling (F) based iNtuitives (N)

INFJs are less spontaneous because they like to plan things.

There are two varieties of INFPs:

  1. Those that have -Assertive identities (-A).

  2. Those that have -Turbulent identities (-T).

  3. See above, "Remind me, what is the -T/-A at the end of my 16Personalities.com score?"

What is the difference between an INFP-T and an INFP-A?

INFP-A

Like INFJ-As, an INFP-A is also an -Assertive HeartCentred Intuitives™️ who experiences a great deal of self-confidence when it comes to being a feeling-based iNtuitive. The difference between a INFJ-As, and an INFP-A is that the Js are planners whereas the Ps are more spontanous in nature.

INFP-T

With the combination of a P and a -Turbulent identity, INFP-Ts can come off to other personality types as especially flighty and wishywashy. Beckoning to the whim of those around them, and whatever is happening in the moment, INFP-Ts live more in the now than their INFJ-T counterparts who are more likely to be planning for and living in the future.

Although this is true, the problems experienced by INFP-Ts at home, at school and in the community has more to do with the lack of confidence felt about who they are as iNtuitive beings. This type of insecurity makes INFP-Ts vulnerable, exposing them to predatory type people who are repelled by individuals with a more -Assertive identity.

APPLICATION

There is one character in Kimber KivaGarden's Journey to Caelum series that is an INFPs. Maia, who has been an Apprentice of Michaela's for some time starts her Journey as a somewhat -Turbulent being. It is when Maia experiences a lack of self-confidence that she disconnects from her Divine Self as she begins to descend out of Caelum. At one point in time havoc is created by her inability to cope with an overwhelming situation in the Bird of Transformation. But, through her apprenticeship, Maia gains a great deal of Confidence, Courage and Grace as an INFP-A. It is through her transformation from having a more -Turbulent identity to a more -Assertive one that Maia overcomes the characteristics within her being that are vulnerable and suseptable to predatory type people: she is no longer a target to bullies and the like. And that is why Kimber has written this series and dedicated her life to guiding HeartCentred Intuitives™️ from a -Turbulent identity to a -Assertive one.

What is an ENFJ-A?

What is an ENFJ-T?

ENFJ's are:

  • HeartCentred Intuitives™️

  • Extraverted by nature (E) so understimulating environments can be draining

  • Planners (J)

  • and Feeling (F) based iNtuitives (N)

There are two varieties:

  1. Those that have -Assertive identities (-A).

  2. Those that have -Turbulent identities (-T).

  3. See above, "Remind me, what is the -T/-A at the end of my 16Personalities.com score?"

How are extraverted HeartCentred Intuitives™️ different from introverted ones?

The make-up of extraverted HeartCentred Intuitives™️ is very different from that of introverts. Many introverts become overwhelmed in overstimulating environments, whereas extraverts thrive in such environments. It is as if the excess energy and excitement - the stimulus - is like water off a duck's back. As such extroverts have a type of filter or capping mechanism: being able to receive input to a degree and stopping the ingestion when satiated.

Introverted HeartCentred Intuitives™️ (INFPs, INFJs) do not have the same capacity. Instead, in overstimulating environments, the input of stimulus continues unceasingly. For this reason, more evolved Introverted HeartCentred Intuitives™️ , who know how to engage in self-care, have learned to remove themselves from exceptionally stimulating environments before they become overwhelmed. It is their exit that caps the input of stimuli.

INFJs and ENFJs

With that said, INFJs and ENFJs are quite similar in make-up. How they differ from INFPs and ENFPs is that INFJs/ENFJs are planners. This does not mean that they can not be spontaneous, like their 'P' counterparts. It simply means that INFJs and ENFJs do exceptionally well in situations and circumstances involving planning for and with people. This makes INFJs and ENFJs exceptional coaches, teachers, counsellors. The main difference, in such respect, when it comes to INFJs and ENFJs in the workplace is:

  • Introverted HeartCentred Intuitives™️ (INFJs) THRiVE under conditions with fewer people, such as one-on-one situations.

  • Extraverted HeartCentred Intuitives™️ (ENFJs) THRiVE under conditions with more people, such as large groups, meetings, and auditoriums.

What is an ENFP-A?

What is an ENFP-T?

ENFP's are:

  • HeartCentred Intuitives™️

  • Extraverted by nature (E) so understimulating environments can be draining

  • Spontaneous in nature (P)

  • and Feeling (F) based iNtuitives (N)

There are two varieties:

  1. Those that have -Assertive identities (-A).

  2. Those that have -Turbulent identities (-T).

  3. See above, "Remind me, what is the -T/-A at the end of my 16Personalities.com score?"

What is the difference between INFPs and ENFPs?

In general, the differences between being an introverted HeartCentred Intuitive™️ and an extraverted HeartCentred Intuitives™️ are described in the section above entitled, "How are extraverted HeartCentred Intuitives™️ different from introverted ones?"

Otherwise, INFPs and ENFPs are quite similar in nature. Both are exceptionally spontaneous when contrasted with INFJ and ENFJ HeartCentred Intuitives™️. Where INFJs and ENFJs are the planners, living and working for the future, INFPs and ENFPs are more present: in the now. Decisions are made on a whim, for INFPs and ENFPs: as occasions arise. Thus, INFPs and ENFPs are much more whimsical in nature because their fortitude is in following what appears before them.

Akin to INFJs and ENFJs, the main difference when it comes to INFPs and ENFPs in the workplace is:

  • Introverted HeartCentred Intuitives™️ (INFPs) THRiVE under conditions with fewer people, such as one-on-one situations.

  • Extraverted HeartCentred Intuitives™️ (ENFPs) THRiVE under conditions with more people, such as large groups, meetings, and auditoriums.

Which is better: being a planning HeartCentred Intuitive or a spontaneous one?

Planning HeartCentred Intuitives (INFJ, ENFJ)™️

It is the love for creating and executing plans that makes INFJ and ENFJ HeartCentred Intuitives™️ different from INFP and ENFP HeartCentred Intuitives™️.

Where INFJ and ENFJ rely more on their plans. than INFP and ENFP HeartCentred Intuitives™️, without plans, INFJs/ENFJs may suffer.

Spontaneous HeartCentred Intuitives™️ (INFP, ENFP)

Being spontaneous in nature, INFPs and ENFPs may find situations where planning is required or clear direction is not given exceptionally challenging. Being provided structure - planning - is helpful for INFPs and ENFPs who do not know how to create it for themself.

It is the flexibility and adaptability of INFPs and ENFPs - in the moment - HeartCentred Intuitives™️ that differ from INFJ and ENFJ HeartCentred Intuitives™️ .

Which is better?

Carl Jung, the father of psychological typology, supposed that the ideal is to develop skills at both ends of each axis. That means that one extreme is not better than the other. What is best is to have the freedom and ability to choose how to act, what decision to make, appropriate to time and place.

  • Some situations require spontaneity.

  • Other situations require the execution of plans.

Both working in symmetry manifest the most productive outcomes for iNtuitive beings who Receive iNspiration from the Divine.

  • Rigidly holding onto one's plan in the face of iNtuition is counter-productive.

  • Being unable to create and execute plans upon Receiving an iNspiration is also counter-productive.

HeartCentred Intuitives™️ have the potential for greater productivity when:

  • Planning HeartCentred Intuitives™️ (INFJs/ENFJs) learn to Surrender to the Divine.

  • Spontaneous HeartCentred Intuitives™️ (INFPs/ENFPs) learn to not only create but also execute plans.

Being able to Surrender to the iNspiration of the Divine, while Manifesting what is Received through the execution of plans: that is the ultimate reality for HeartCentred Intuitives™️.

To this ens were HeartCentred Intuitives™️ born. To this end were HeartCentred Intuitives™️ created.
